eBay your way out of debt!
Financial Train Wreck has taken a pretty reasonable step towards getting out of debt. They’re going to eBay their way out of it! I’m sure that others are doing this as well, but I congratulate them on picking a way of getting out of debt that’s probably a reminder of how they got into debt in the first place.
They’ve made a little over $1,700 so far, which is pretty impressive. I’ve given a lot of thought to selling some old books and taking the proceeds and throwing it into my HSBC account, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t think it’s a matter of having issues parting with the books, but mere laziness. It’s one of those things that I keep telling myself that I’ll do next weekend. But alas, another weekend is here and I haven’t done it! Oh well, maybe next weekend.

Your textbooks may already be worth nothing, you probably want to do it quickly. Photocopy the covers and just pretend they’re still on the bookshelf.
Or move, then you’ll be very very motivated to sell heavy books.

I have had more luck selling books, cd’s, videogames, and dvd’s on amazon.com. E-bay is good for other items. Most textbooks are pretty much worthless after a year.

If laziness is the issue, you can find a used bookseller in your area who buys from walk-ins. Call them up and ask their policy etc (some only buy on certain days, etc or have certain requirements)
Then pack up all the ones you want to sell and in one trip sell whatever they’ll take, and donate the rest.
You might not net as much money overall, but for a return on time invested you might come out ahead

I’m in the Ebay Procrastinators Club, too. I got as far as setting aside a bunch of stuff to sell, and signing up as a seller. But the idea of actually listing stuff–I’m too lazy. Two things are holding me back. Taking the digital pix and uploading them is a huge pain. And I’m intimidated about figuring out how much to charge for shipping, and then to actually turn around and ship something within 24 hours so you get good buyer feedback?
You gotta be kidding.
But I know I have to get around to it eventually.
