Opened up an HSBC Savings Account

January 15th, 2006 Posted in Saving

This week I decided that the money I have sitting in my checking account needed to be moved elsewhere. It not a lot – roughly $3000, but its money that is collecting no interest at all. I’ve decided to open up an HSBC Online Savings Account that pays an excitingly high 4.25% APY. Thankfully, I took advantage of the promo code “start”, which will net me an extra $25 for just signing up. The extra cash coupled with the terrific 4.35% is well worth the price of admission with HSBC. Also, with HSBC I won’t have to worry about minimums or other fees that might prevent me from moving this money into better investment vehicles if necessary.

This follows one of my major resolutions this year – save more. I’m rather young and frankly haven’t made saving much of a priority. It’s something that I thought I’d worry about when I had a full time job. Sure it’ll be easier to focus on then, but I’ll miss out on the compounding ability of my money for the next two years while I finish law school.
